1. Dennis brought several bottles of wine for the members to taste.

2. Shep returned from his trip to Scotland with the bone chilling news that pipe shops and tobacconists are a thing of the past. He had a difficult time finding ANY pipe tobacco and purchased the ONE pipe he found there.

But, he informed us that strangely, cigarettes are found everywhere even in machines there.

3. Mike suggested we contact members not present to find out why they are not able to attend meetings. Perhaps ask for suggestions to make meeting easier to attend.

5. Discussed the Mini-pipe show with the members. Date: December 6^th, from 1pm to 4pm. The location in Clovis , CA will be finalized later this month.

6. Next month’s SOB meeting will be out smoking contest. Mike Siegel owner of the Cigar Monkey provided the First Place Prize; a $150.00 Bjarne Pipe. All SOB members are invited to join the contest.

June Meeting

The SOB's held their June meeting at the Cigar Monkey lounge on June 17, 2008.

A discussion about Non-Aromatic tobaccos was led by Mike Siegel. Dennis Muster brought a sample of a non-aromatic blend. We also discussed flavoring tobaccos such as St. James Perique and Latakia.
Shown also were photos sent by Kevin Chan of a unique pipe with a tobacco reservoir behind the bowl. A metal auger attached to the stem adds tobacco to the bottom of the bowl as you twist the stem.
It was decided to hold the July Meeting at Fernando's Bistro's patio. There would be NO-host beverages and members will be able to order snacks or dinner on their own.
The July Meeting would be on the THIRD TUESDAY, July 22 since the Fair would be in progress on the regular meeting night.

August Meeting

During the meeting we held a pipe smoking contest.

Each contestant was given:

3 grams of tobacco

2 matches

And after a few preperational formalities the Contest was On!

Cliff Berthelsen won the contest with a time of 1 hour, 1 minute, 7 seconds.

A door Prize was donated by Mike Malone. It was a gourd Calabash from Africa.

Brandon Berthelsen Takes Third Place in Contest...

The Sons O' The Briar Pipe Club's own Brandon Berthelsen took third place in a pipe smoking contest held a Hardwick's in Fresno, California on August 19, 2007. Brandon outlasted 7 other entrants, including last year's winner, Mike Siegel, who finished ninth.
First place was taken by Mike DiGaicomo of the Fresno Pipe Club.

Fresno Pipe Club Visits Sons O' The Briar

The Fresno Pipe Club held it's monthly meeting in Merced hosted by the Sons O'The Briar Pipe Club of Merced. As you can see by the Photo attendence was very good, indeed.
